Your first sign-in

1. Open Account menu › My Profile, select Change Password, and turn on Two-step sign-in.
2. Your screens need the Laboratory module. If Laboratory › Dashboard sends you back to the main dashboard, it is not switched on yet — ask your administrator.

The test catalog comes empty

1. Laboratory › Test Catalog › New Test — add the tests you actually run, with their units and normal ranges. Nothing is seeded for you.
2. The normal range is what marks a result abnormal or critical later, so set it per test, and per sex or age where your laboratory works that way.
3. Ask your administrator to mirror the catalog as billable services, so an order can be charged.

Working the queue

1. Doctors raise orders from a visit; they arrive in the laboratory list with the patient and the tests asked for.
2. Enter results against the order, not as free text elsewhere — that is what puts them in the patient’s record and on the doctor’s screen.
3. A critical value alerts the ordering doctor. Do not sit on one: enter it, then confirm the doctor has seen it.
4. Validate the result when it is final. Only then is it treated as reportable.
