How to Explain Document Verification Codes to Patients
Help patients and document recipients understand what a verification QR code confirms and what it keeps private.
A verification code on a prescription, medical certificate, or examination form gives the holder a quick way to confirm where the document came from. Your clinic can explain the feature in one sentence: scanning the code confirms that the clinic issued the document, without showing medical details.
Keep these limits clear when staff answer questions:
- The public page shows the document type, a non-clinical description, and patient initials.
- It does not show a diagnosis, treatment, result, or full patient name.
- It confirms issuance or revocation, not the clinical accuracy of the document.
- It cannot prove that the person holding the paper is the patient.
- An edited copy may retain a valid code, so recipients should inspect the document itself.
